DIY: Food-Safe Lace Sugar Crown Cake Toppers

Things you need for this DIY:
❂ metallic lace, I used this and this
❂ 1/4 cup of sugar
❂ glass jars in various sizes

Total time:
15 mins + drying time

When I saw lace crowns start to pop up everywhere, I thought what perfect cake toppers they would make, sans the glue. So here are my food safe, lovely sugar lace crowns.

In a pan melt the sugar with just enough water to cover it. Let it simmer until it becomes syrupy. You can tell it's getting close when the bubbles get bigger and are slow to pop.

Turn the heat off and let the syrup cool for about 30 seconds. Then dip in your lace using chopsticks or tongs.

Take out the lace and place it on a non-stick surface.

When the lace is cool enough to handle, wrap it around your jar. It should stick by itself.

Let the crowns dry until they have hardened. This will vary depending on how long you simmered the sugar.

And done! This would be so beautiful on a wedding cake.

DIY: Fancy No-Carve Pumpkins 3 ways

Things you need for this DIY:
❂ pumpkins
❂ gold embroidered appliqué
❂ gold rhinestone banding
❂ rhinestone and pearl banding
❂ scissors
❂ glue

Total time:
30 mins

Halloween is my all-time favorite holiday!

For this project, I used non-toxic washable glue because these are organic pumpkin-pie pumpkins and I intend to eat them! If you aren't planning on eating yours, feel free to use krazy or hot glue, which will set much faster.

The trick is to let the glue dry for a few minutes until it's tacky, then apply the trim.

Happy Halloween!!

Wedding DIY Inspiration: Embellished Wedding Cake

Wedding cakes are expensive as heck. Even your basic plain white wedding cake will run you a couple hundred bucks. Add decoration to that and you might have to swap the Badgley Mischka heels you've been dreaming about for drugstore flip flops. Now, I might be the wrong person to give advice (we had donuts for dessert at our wedding), but if you don't want to go broke buying a fancy cake, you can easily get a simple cake and decorate it yourself. A little trim here, some rhinestone brooches there and you have a stunning cake that that need not break the bank. I love these examples from A Simple Cake.

Shop this look:
Rhinestone brooches $8-$38
Rhinestone trim $5-$58

I recommend:
Small pearl lily brooch $10
Rhinestone bow brooch $15
Floral bouquet brooch $25
3-row rhinestone banding $15
3-row rhinestone and pearl banding $16.50
